The New Normal - Pt 3 - The Power of the Gospel
 
Galatians 3:1-5 (NLT) Oh, foolish Galatians! What magician has cast an evil spell on you? For you used to see the meaning of Jesus Christ's death as clearly as though I had shown you a signboard with a picture
of Christ dying on the cross. Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by keeping the law? Of course not, for the Holy Spirit came upon you only after you believed the message you heard about Christ. Have you lost your senses? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? You have suffered so much for the Good News. Surely it was not in vain, was it? Are you now going to just throw it all away?I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law of Moses? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.
 
The Power of the Gospel
 
1. We have been saved from the penalty of sin - JUSTIFICATION
 
Galatians 3:13a (NLT) But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law...

Galatians 3:10 (NLT) But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, "Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all these commands that are
written in God's Book of the Law."
 
Deuteronomy 29:19 (NLT) Let none of those who hear the warnings of this curse consider themselves immune, thinking, "I am safe, even though I am walking in my own stubborn way." This would lead to utter ruin!
 
Galatians 3:22 (NLT) But the Scriptures have declared that we are all prisoners of sin, so the only way to receive God's promise is to believe in Jesus Christ.
 
Galatians 3:13b(NLT) .. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
 
Colossians 2:14 (NLT) He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross.
 
Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT) Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
 
Matthew 7:12 (NLT) Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
 
Galatians 3:19 (NLT) Well then, why was the law given? It was given to show people how guilty they are. But this system of law was to last only until the coming of the child to whom God's promise was made...
 
Galatians 3:24 (NLT) Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian and teacher to lead us until Christ came. So now, through faith in Christ, we are made right with God.
 
Galatians 3:29 (NLT) And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you.
 
2. We are being saved from the power of sin - SANCTIFICATION
 
Galatians 3:2 (NLT) Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by keeping the law? Of course not, for the Holy Spirit came upon you only after you believed the message you heard about Christ.
 
Galatians 3:5 (NLT) I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law of Moses?
 
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NLT) A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another he gives the gift of special knowledge. The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to someone else he gives the power to heal the sick. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and to another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to know whether it is really the Spirit of God or another spirit that is speaking. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, and another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
 
Romans 8:15-16 (NLT) So you should not be like cowering, fearful slaves.You should behave instead like God's very own children, adopted into his family - calling him "Father, dear Father." For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God's children.
 
Galatians 5:22 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love...
 
3. We will be saved from the presence of sin - GLORIFICATION
 
Acts 17:26-27 (NIV) From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
 
1 Corinthians 15:19-20 (NLT) And if we have hope in Christ only for this life, we are the most miserable people in the world. But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again.
 
1 Corinthians 15:23-24 (NLT) But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised first; then when Christ comes back, all his people will be raised. After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having put down all enemies of every kind.
 
1 Corinthians 15:43 (NLT) Our bodies now disappoint us, but when they are raised, they will be full of glory. They are weak now, but when they are raised, they will be full of power.
 
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (NLT) How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
